Well, obviously it's been a while... again. lol. So, what's new? We have an adorable little 2 (almost 3) month old, named Aaron. And our little Jacob-boy is almost 2 years old! Crazy! Ben graduates at the end of July and we are SO excited! From there we're planning on moving a few hours away for him to start his Master's program in January (if he gets accepted... which we're hoping for. =P) In the mean time, we'll find a place to live, and Ben will get a job. We're really looking forward to this new phase of life. But, although we've looked forward to leaving Rexburg since the day we got here, it will be kinda sad to leave!
I decided to stop going to school for now. I haven't taken more than 2 classes at a time since I got pregnant with Jacob, and I really don't want to try. Some girls can do, but it's not for me. In the mean time, I've really been working on my photography. I have LOVED it! I've taken some online classes from the amazing Nicole Hill Gerulat. I took some photography classes back in highschool and when I first started college several years ago. But, I was working with film then... I learned some VERY basic things and I honestly don't think I understood some other very basic things that were *trying* to be taught to me. lol. Now, I have a beautiful DSLR... and I KNOW how to USE it! I know what I'm doing! Eeek! It's so exciting! On top of that, I'm learning Photoshop! At first it was SUPER overwhelming, but after a wonderful 2 hour workshop with Katelyn Foutch, I'm feeling much more excited! She is my favorite. :) Next month I get to take an online Photoshop class from Nicole's Classes, and the month after that I'm taking Tabletop Photography which will focus on still life. I am SO excited! Each class is only a month long, and includes reading material, videos, examples, and a weekly chat with the instructor (which I think is awesome). It also gives the opportunity to have your own work critiqued by the instructor each week. Which is my personal favorite part. What's better than being told what you can improve on by someone who KNOWS what they're doing?!!
As much as I love the online classes (and I do!), my most educational (and fun!) experience was when I spent those 2 hours with Katelyn Foutch. She is just so good! And I LOVE being able to work hands-on and try out the things she's teaching me right when she's doing it! It was awesome and I saw SO much improvement in my work from that experience.
I'm planning to keep my photography blog updated. You can find it here. My goal is to one day have a little photography business with my amazing husband. He has quite the eye! And his fun personality really helps me and my clients relax. Right now I'm charging next to nothing just because I want to get in as much practice as I can. Saturday we photographed some friends of ours, Adam and Katie Johnson, and had such an awesome time. They are awesome people. They have been married just a few months longer than us and are trying to adopt right now. They are so sweet and have such fun personalities. They were best friends in highschool, then dated for a little bit before Adam's mission to New Zealand. Katie waited for him, and they got married shortly after. So sweet. :) They will be amazing parents. Keep your eyes and ears open for them! They would love to welcome a sweet little baby into their home. :)
Anyway, their shoot only took about 30 minutes, but we got some seriously awesome shots. I was SO nervous before hand because I had never shot a couple before... but I really couldn't be happier with the way they turned out, especially for my first time. It is so fun to see improvement in my work. It gets me so excited and motivated to do more! I'm so grateful my first couple's shoot was of friends. It really helped me to not freak out so much. lol.
On a different note, our little boys are growing up so fast! Jacob is Mr. Independent (when he wants to be), but when he gets hurt or tired, he's a mamma's boy. :) His favorite things are: 1.) Mommy (of course! But I'm not biased... hehehe). 2.) Wrestling with Daddy when he gets home! 3.) Sucking his thumb... yeah. 4.) Elmo from Sesame Street. Jacob cracks us up when he sings, "That's Elmo's world!" The words aren't really understandable unless you're his parents, but the tune is unmistakable! This kid has a knack for music!
Aaron is just about as sweet as can be. I didn't think babies could get any easier than Jacob (other than the Apnea monitor), but I think Aaron might have him beat. =P Aaron is such an even-tempered baby. Even when big brother attacks him with kisses (or scratches!), he only cries for a little bit before he's calm and happy again. Thank goodness! He loves to smile and "talk" to us. And lately he has been very into laughing at us... which I absolutely adore! Every time I try to get it on camera though, he stops. Of course. haha.
This weekend we're going to Ben's home town to bless Aaron. We're excited. The family's excited. The kids are excited (well, I'm sure they would be if they understood what was happening... hehe). I'll have to post some pictures.
Here are some semi-recent pictures of our little guys:
(Thanks to the wonderful Melanie Dunbar for the sweet picture of Aaron!)
P.S. No, Aaron is NOT really that big compared to Jacob! It was just the angle of the camera. lol. :)
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I could go on a lot longer... but I better not. To my adoring readers (if there are any), good night. ;)
Laura
